ABOUT
Artist Bio
I've been a professional free lance artist for more than 3 decades. Relocating from the Black Hills of SD to NW Florida in the mid 1990's I left behind snowy winters in search of year round sunshine and I found it in Grayton Beach, the coolest little funky beach town along a stretch of Hwy that was mostly undeveloped sand dunes with beautiful emerald colored water and white sand beaches.
For over 20 years I was inspired to paint the beautiful sunsets or sunrises of the Gulf of Mexico. The Sand Sea and Sky series was born and became my primary subject matter for my coastal paintings. In 2017 I moved my home and studio inland 25 miles to a sweet little plot of land where my 6 rescue Labradors had room to run off leash and I could build a larger studio. After moving inland my primary art focus shifted from coastal themes to land based themes. With more land space I was able to revive my love of gardening and more specifically to growing flowers. My love for flowers has now turned into a passion for painting them.
Artist Statement
My work is mainly process driven, and lead by the nature of the pigments, tools & materials I'm working with. As the mark making and layers develop each painting reveals a narrative, informing my decisions about the next step in the process. As the painting continues to evolve I simply let the energy of intuitive mark making take it where it wants to be.
